BPMN model

BPMN

What is a BPMN model?

BPMN models (Business Process Model and Notation) is a model type whose original purpose is to create executable code, i.e. automated processes in IT applications. Today, BPMN models are often used to visualize the steps in a business process, from start to finish.

2c8 Apps and BPMN

2c8 Apps supports BPMN models, but we do not advocate the use of BPMN models for workflows. This because it is much more difficult for the business to understand and training is required to be able to contribute to the workshop and then to be able to read and make the models useful. BPMN is a notation developed by IT people for IT people with the original purpose of describing information flows. Many organizations do not go that far and use the notation for “only” process development, but given the background, it is not the optimal language to describe processes as a communication between people. BPMN also has a limitation in that it only includes the process perspective (as a model type). We see that there are several perspectives and want the opportunity to have “bridges” between them and then be able to switch between different perspectives, such as for example role to organization, requirements to stakeholder/relationship model and application to application model, etc.
