Process Model
– a description of the approach

Process Model

What is a Process Model?

A Process Model can be seen as a series of interrelated activities that transform an input (a need) into a more refined output (a result). The process model is a visual description of:

  • Why it is done
  • What is done
  • Who does it
  • How it’s done

Why should you use a Process Model?

In 2c8 Apps you can create interactive and visual Process Models. The Process Model is based on six fundamental principles that explain the benefits of visualizing business processes:

  1. Increased Understanding An image is worth a thousand words. Complex business processes are easier to understand and absorb through images than descriptive text.
  2. Clarify Relations and Correlations By mapping your organization’s processes, you can clarify how they relate via flows, activities, or IT systems.
  3. Facilitate Communication When you visualize your processes, business communication is easier, as we all speak from the same perspective and image.
  4. Participation 2c8 Apps creates opportunities to jointly map your processes based on workshops, thus increasing your involvement in identifying development opportunities.
  5. More Perspectives The mapping helps to gain insight into different parts of the organization and to involve more perspectives in the development of the processes.
  6. Ownership The process mapping in 2c8 Apps clarifies who in the business is responsible for the process and how it should be managed and developed over time.

How do you create a Process Model in 2c8 Apps?

For good readability in a Process Model, it is essential to always have one or more inputs and equally important to describe the process’s result. Input can be what is to be further processed and what triggers something to be performed.

The expected outcome of an activity is usually the input to the activity that follows. By visualizing the output of an activity, we can clearly see that it is the same output as input between two activities. It also ensures that all results are handled in this or other processes, which is easy to miss if you only map the activities.

In addition to the activity flow, the Process Model uses roles and positions to describe who is responsible for a particular activity.
